"Crunch Time"
Winter approaches with fair warning in Alaska’s upper Yukon River Valley. The crunching of river-borne ice announces to all that the “testing time” of the year is imminent. It is always fascinating to watch as this 1900 mile “highway” paves itself with up to six feet of ice--truly captivating and worthy of one’s wonder.
